Marks/Inscriptions: ) 138 Overton Frederick (1851- was born in S. An st. and was a son of Thos Overton of Meadowbank and came to ands with his parents . They farmed at Ota hu hu but on the out break of the Maori War returned to Aust When they returned to Asspros Coo N.Z in 62 they decided on Canty and Thos Overton bought Meadow bank , originally 2600 ac on the Selwyn part of Harman and Davie 's Run. Frederick Overton was educ. privately and at the High School, Melbourne . When meadowbank was sold on the death of his father , he took n 570 ac at Lakeside , known as Wal ingham. He was a member of the Ellesmere Rd. Bd and o y the Lc. Com in (clair man) and of the Lakeside Sch. Comm (chairman He was a member of the Elles mere A. +P. Assoc (Pres) . He was for 6 year s a member of the old C.Y C and refused a lieutenan cy and a captain cy. At various times he was asked to contest the Ellesmere seat be t could not he persuaded to do so. He was a famous runner and jumper and held many records . He was very fast over 100 Yar do . He had a famous hackne who won in any championship T. W. Went tells a story of Low, When he was paintin g por tran - an old billy wet charged him. he portent ended, s in the home of Dr. E.C. Barnett of Palm. North who married Hilda Overton.
