Marks/Inscriptions: D. 135 Ovenden, ) William H (1853 -1906) was the sou of William Chambers Ovenden M.D of Ennis killen. He studied at T.C.B and took his in edi cal degrees there 71-72 . He attended Du bun Hospitals and was then a surgeon on a White Star ship travelling to S. America . His medical degrees an d and qualifications were exceptio . The Professor of Surgery at Dublin pad him unusua compliments on his paper. He ear out at the Cain6uly with his sister Florence Charlotte sod she d. on tho +voyage 39. He arrived in 74 and gave notice that he had produced his diplomas and was abou start practise in Kaiapoi Sept. 74. He was elected to the Kaiapoi Born. Coun . Mar. . He took pat in music in Kaiapoi and played the vol de Gambia in the Kaiapoi Philharmo Orchestra. e left Kaiapoi about 85. After he moved to Ch.Ch he went into part. with Dr Prins ; they diss. part. in Oct. 90. marr. at Holy Trinity Avonside - .9.76 Edith Laube . The marriag was marriage ( not a success and in Feb. 86 he and his wife executed a deed o para tion; there was litigation over the custody of the only child - a dau. He was to pay her £e 300 a gear and assiom her his l e policy £300 £1000. The custod y of the only child was given to the doctors brother , the Rev. C. Ovenden of Dublin .
