Marks/Inscriptions: M. 54 Mallinson, George ( was an architect. surveyor and land agent and had an Office at McCardell s , Oxford St. Lylt. in July 57. Mountfort had designed a very nigh church for Lylt which had to be dismantled When it becamme dangerous. Mallinson was chosen for the architect for the church which was to replace it. The walls were low and the span was very wide; It is still in use. There was a long drawn out C argument about the price for the stone work. Mathison considering that 251- a yard was the full value for the work. Four stone masons , W.G. Chaney, W.P. Jones, T. Abrahams and R. Evans wrote indignantly to the Lylt . Times in reply. £1500 had been subscribed for the new t. church and n tenders for Matlin sons design were w Lylt. o nearly low enough. In Nov. 58 a comm ltte headed by Robert Latter had been Authorised to do the best they could in the circumst ances and not to be tied to stone for the material. The Prov. Councils y rant. for new churches Arrived just in time . and with the ard f this the cone m. was able to get a tender for the ( impet building as originally planned. The foundation stone was lard by Bishop Harper 19.6.59. Marks/Inscriptions: G. Mallinson M. 54 a further 100 peet in length. In Jan 60 the foundation stone of Gov. Bay Church was laid by Brisk ys Harper. Mallinson was the architect and Morey the builder . The party adjourned to Potts s for lurch . Potts had taken a chief part in rais ing the money for the church. The church at Lylt wars con secreted 1 in on thse after it was started and was something of a triumph for him. He designed the Wesley an chapel at Kaiapoi whi ch was opened for service in Ap. 60. He was also architect for the new Wesleyan capel at Lylt. opened Sept. 61. He won a com petition for the best design for an addition to the Ch.Ch. Town Hall . Mar. 62. . He was on the comm. of the Fine Arts soc founded. Mallinson was bankrup in July 53. His chief creditors were W.H. MEin, butcher and G. H. Tribe, publican. Although Mallinson had succeeded where Mount fort forked, his design for the first St Liuke's a Wooden church , was not successful Rev. James Wilson in a letter to selfe said this church nearly collapsed before it was finished and had to be stayed ip like a leaning stack.
