Marks/Inscriptions: H. 88 Hamilton Rev Thomas Albert (1849 -1937) was the second si ofthe Rev. Hugh Staples Hamilton of Masto , Lends, Yorks and was edu . at private schools and joined the navy in '63 and served under Capt. Troon but retired owing to ill health in 74. He had sof specialised in gunnery and navigation. He commuted his navy pension for £1080 and he and his brother ( came out to N.Z. in the Waitara in 74. Another n brother er Heigh Alfred had already come out in '73; and a sister Harriett Eliz. also came out in the Waitara; she married 24.11.75 Frederick Carrington Agassiz, who was also a saw miller. She may have cooked for her brothers. on the voyage the crew broached the liquid cargo and the captain put them in ins and worked the ship with the passengers. Alfred suggested saw milling and Tom gave up his idea of shep farming. Tom and Alfred gob work at Gammans sawmill to gain experience and Hugh got works as a farmer, Having par ( their own passages out they were entitled to a free selection of land and they chose 30 ac. of the Oxford Bush. They cut Dr Welds bush on a royalty basis They wera burnt out in 1'76 and saved only their saws ; but they were insured and were able to start again. Marks/Inscriptions: Riv. T a Hamilton H. 88 living at their new mill at Coopers Creek. He married in 77 and started to teach at West Eyreton School . He moved to Carleton in '80 and from there to East Oxford. He was ordained in '81 and went to Ross on the West Coast and in he moved to Temuka . He was responsible for getting the Parish Hal built at Temuka in '90. Sam Hewlings presented the land and H.R. Webb, synod mar for the paish , laid the foundation store. He started a temperance campaign in Temuka and 400 people signed the pledge and wore a bit of blue aipson in their coats. But he refused to Join in the Prohibition campaign. He moved from Temuka in .92 to Reasant Pount and after a fas months there to Ashburton. The vestry there had to spend L 163 on enlarging the vicarage to accommodate his rapidly in creasing family . After 7 years at Ashburton he made his final move to Fendalton. The vicar ege then was one of Che bat n Canty , having been built of Kauri in '86 ; it was unfertuinateles burnt dowe in 1905. He retired fon Raalte in 1922 and was appointed Acting chaplain to the Phlegm Hesp. He was diocesan examiner and also a member of the standing Comm. e was a holder of a mastei mariners cti fcat, of a O tRackers celibate and he license o 1 olay man of Che C. of.E.
