Marks/Inscriptions: G. 1 59 James Gulliver was the first regular sexton at Rangiora . He was paid £20 perannunn also one shilling for special tolling of the bell and rot for digging a grave. His duties as laid down in the Vestry Book were as folles; to sweep , dust and light the church ; to keep sconces and chandeliers dean; to ring the bell for morning and evening service on Sundays and other days when there is a service. to ass iota church wardens in mam Raining order in the church ; to ring a notice bell on Sunday morin at 8 A.m. for not less than 5 mules, also at 10.30 for 5 mmntes and from 10.45 till the service starts: on Sunday evenings at 6 for 5 muntes and at 6.15 till service . Special duties; to toll the bell for 3 minutes on the death of a parishioner so desired; to attend all funerals and dig all graves; 1o grave to be less than 5 fest deep, but childrens graves 3 feet. He resigned in Ap. 64 . He had ben a member of the congregation since 180 and took an active part in getting the church built. marr. '46 Elizabeth Chadwick of Portsmouth.
