Marks/Inscriptions: Mac. 129 Macdonald , William Ken elth (1820-79) was a son of Rinaldi Macdonald of Gala ie, Baderrock, Inverness shire. The Mardon ald had little capital. some of what they had went in giving Allan his Medical educati . W.K. left for Cust. in the summer o 8 and his mother and Augus followed in '41 . There had been some bad seasons in Aust. just before the pilgr ins arrived in Canty and there was interest in the new settlement in Canty. The Macdonald in conjunction with Joseph Hawdon and J.C. Aitken shipped sheep across in the Tory in '51. In Nov. 52 they shipped 2200 across in the Tory and struck a vey bad crossing. only g00 arriving alive . In Oct. 52 Chas Wedge sold Ash field or th south bank of the Waimak. to Allan ( need onalbi and John Me Liane by an a greement signed in Melbourne. Macdonald and hi cLean divided the un McLean taking. the eas term half . The Macdonald thought this wond be valuable as a wether Station , being s0 near Ch.iCh. In May 52 W.K. took up Waireka Station between the Hawkins and the Selwyn of 8000 ac. In 53 they applied for a gun on the Orari River, which was outside the Canty block. Orari Station lay between the Orari River and the Rangitata and included all the country from the Sea to the line of the present road running from the Uf per Orari bridge to Proud foot E corner. They also Stocked Rangitata) eland ond built a bridge to connect with the rin , bub finally the river took charge and they had to build a woodshed oen the Island . They had 4000 sheep on Orari Station by '56 and 8000 by 51. D Allan macdonald came across from Aust. by the Tory Spray arriving with his wife and his dau. Eliz. In 64 W.R. and Augus dissolved part. ; they had married in Aust. in No.ig the two daus of Capt Aeneas Macpherson . Augus built his homestead at War tai high up on the down s behind Geraldine ; the house was of Sim dried brick and is still in use and in good order. When he was dying his two favourite horses stool all day with their heads over the hedge by his Window. He was very fond of horses and was a good judge of them .
