He went to sea as a boy in the East India trade and came to N.Z as 3' officer of the Isabella Hercus on '61. He was for many years engaged in coastal Rade and was master and part Owner of the small steamer Avon . He afterwards owned an sailed the S.S. Moa after first sailing her on bohoef o f Miles +o. He then owned and sailed the 3 masked schooner Rifle man. He was in Tara maki in '63 at the time f the mass acce of the Sugar Loaves and afterwards carried n of h des patches to sr Geo. Grey at Wgtn. He was in Tauranga Harbour at the time of the Gate Pah assault. He settled down in Lylt. and built wool sheds and was a part. in the firm of Talbot + McClatchie His shed was 224 feit Cong , 60 Pt. wide with 14It. Walls . He was appointed judge at the Lylt. Regatta 1.1.71 . His schooner As pasi a of 44 tons won the sailing race for craft under 50 tons at the Ly H. Regatta Jan. 71 . The prize was a very fine cut sent out by Shaw , Savill + Co. Capt. Fox gave a party in the Charlotte Gladstone at which the cup was presented. He stood for the Lylt . Br. Coun Sept. 73 and failed to get in . failed again Sept. 76; finally got in Sept. 77 . Candidate agi Sept. 80 and failed. He was elected to the Lylt. Harb .
