Marks/Inscriptions: W. 697 Wood , William Deris ley (1824- 1904) was a son of Robert Wood and Eliza and was born in Gripping Valley near Blake ham , Su foll Eng. and came from a milling family. He came out in the Randolph, fore cabin. and his first employment was as sec. to J.R. Godley. He could not find any thing to ds and he held Godley up in the streets He and Wm. Chimaera his brother- in- law took up the sand Hill Run in ) which was bounded by the estuary and the Styx . They rainy t as a dairy farm to supply Ch.Ch. with milk and sold ( t after less Than a year to Dr. Moore and Peter Ken. The partners next took up 15000 acs . part of Snowdon Chisnall sold his share to Wood who in turn sold to Dudley and Leach Wood thought the run too far from Ch.Ch. to bother with. At this time Wood went to Sydney to inset his brother Charles , a surgeon in the Navy. te massed Charles who had gone on to Vancouver before he arrived . Wood went on to Eng and returned next year in the oriental ap 56 having bought a windmill and married a wife. The windmill machinery came from whit inor and Bingen of Wickham market and arrived by the Westminster soon after the oriental. The windmill was working early in Sept. 56.
