Marks/Inscriptions: S. 296 Sherratt, Amos (1831- -1901) was born near Burton +on Trent, Eng and at the age of 23 was a deputy in a coal mine in Warwickshire He and his wife and 2 ch. arrived by the Capt. Cook 2.9.63; also on the ship were his brothers Caleb and Andrew. He was for 2 years at Lylt. . worked in the timel and at various Contract with his 2 brothers in der the name of Sherratt Bros. He then moved to Ch.Ch. and worked for Aulsebrook for 2 years . Alter that he went farming in the Leeston dist. and bought Rosendale arm which he worked for 12 years ; t was near Selwyn Station He was chairman of the Killinchy Sch. Comm. He was elected a member of the Ellesmere Rd Bd J an 72 , defeating a strong sitting member G.B. Woodman 11 ratepayers were present at the poll. In 78 he moved to Geraldine and went in for saw. milling on part. with Brown . he made the Skip ton cutting ; he was also in busin ess as a money linder. He and Brown diss . part. when the bush was worked out , mem br Geraldine C.C. + Town Bd. : played harmon marr. Miss Eskett (2 wife) He d. .7.19 01 at server at Killinchy. 2' sons.
