Marks/Inscriptions: S. 188 Selbie, George ( was born in Berwick shir , Scot. and was brought up to farming . He arrived at Lylt. bay the nen of the Mersey, single 19.10.62 and was engaged by so J. Cracroft Wilson as a shepherd for his Cracroft station. He stayed there for 14 mon thse and then went to the Whaka marino gold fields in Marlborough. He left there and came down to Kaiapoi and worked at road making. He afterwards got work with Wm. Gosling of Triple Stream , Treverna Temuka He then went to John Hayhurst of Temuka and leased land from him. Finally he bought 201 ac. at Claremont w hick he called Grange Farm in When they was moving fom Temuka to Claremont they had 4 small chichen and travelled ins dray. When crossing the Temuka , the leaders got entangled in some Will. Mrs Selbie had to hold the horses while he went away to gel a Wight. marr. sons 2 daus 3' son Robt Wm. marr. 31.3.10 Lucy Agnes 3' dau. J.A.
