Marks/Inscriptions: T117 Parnham , Edwin (1835-191) was born at +luther , Nots. the ? son of John Parnham of Flint harm . He was educ. at Bingham, Nots and was brought up to business. He arrived by the Glen tanner in and his first rob was sawing in the Kaiapoi Bush . with Charles Oram. He bought 30 0 ac near kaiapoi and worked for a few years and then went off to the Gabriels Gully rush. He soon returned to Kaiapoi and took charge Mein s butchery for a year after which he and Geo. Weston joined forces in bry ing the business ; after 5 years he bought Weston n out. Iu 91 he handed over the business to his sons W.E. and in order to concentrate on the manag ment of tis farms. one of these was Beach vale near Kaiapoi, just North of the Poplar Avenue and the other was 22 0 aces at Sefton. He was a great pig breeder and in oue year sold 900 cattle in the market. He used to grow horse beans , curt them with a side deliver and hard tre them. He was one of the 15 who bought the Assets and goodw ill the Kaiapoi Woolen Coy. from T. Peacock in 78 . He was one of the directors of the Kaiapoi Land, Building ) Invert. Soc , sept. 67. Marks/Inscriptions: E.Parnham P 119 He was elected to the Comm. of the Northern A. +P. ssc 69-70. He was Chairman of the school comm. for 5 years and of the Farmers Club as well as being a promoter of the Kaiapoi Woolen Coy , he was a director . In 70 he took an active part in the formation o f the Volunteer Fire Bde and he joined the Kaiapoi volunteers in '59. He was a prominent athlete and cricket er . He exhibited at Shows and frequently acted as judge. There was a brisk contest for a vacant seat in the Kaiapoi Council in July 68 and R.T. Newnham beat him by 79 votes to 54 ; but he was elected un opposed to the Comical on the resignation of Josiah Burch. He was twice Mayor of Kaiapoi . and sat on the Council for many years. When the s Waimak. Harb. Bd was formed in Jan. 77 he was elected and +e came chairman Nov. 82 . His Beach vale Farm had a fine homestead and garden.
