Marks/Inscriptions: F. 103 Par kea son , Richard Knowles (183, 1909) was born in Eng. the second son of Dr. Burrell Parkerson and came out to Canty with his brother Burnell in the Isabella Hercus . He farmed his fathers land at Sumner; the young Parkerson s built a cob cottage there and were among the earliest to live there; Canon Cotterill was another . He later farmed at Prebbleton and Ellesmere . In '64 he went to the Mackenzie Country and bought in conjunction w ith his lather and brothers Greys Hills of 3000 ac. as well as Whales backe and Saw don . At that time he also owned land at Temuka and apparent ly ma de his home there. He was a member of a comm. found Sept. 67 to look after the interests o f Temuka and the surroundi dist. At the Downs , Arowhenua he had the entire horse Nugget standing 27.8.64. He was bankrupt in June 69. He was elected for Mt Cook to the first Timaru + Gladstone Bd. of Works Dec. 67. He was capt. of the Temuka Volun Hers Jan. 69. In 1880 he bought R. 22 50 ac at Ealing and settled there in '87. In 1902 he held 560 ac. of L.1.P. When he lived at Sumner he had a horse called Sultan and worse Won 3 races at the C.J.C. meeting of 5 He d. 17.12.09 ag 78. Cyclop N.Z. 11. : pass list. Canty Mus: P.9.3.09. Acland.
