Marks/Inscriptions: J.a. and . Ick, Charles Thomas (1827-85) was a son of Joseph Ick was born an the Lady Halton estate. Shropshire and arrived in N.Z. in the Lord Worsley in 58 . He had been trained in the drapery business and he opened a drapery shop in Dunedin. He starte d farming in Waikouaiti in 63 but this venture was not su ces sul and he came to Ch Ch in 70 and started in business as an auctioneer in part. will Thomas Preece who had come but in the same ship with him. They diss. part. in Aug. 72. He carried on his business in the Central Sale.rowney opposite the City Hotel in High Street. He was a judge of dairy produce and cred in eats at the Ch.Ch. Show of 73. In 74 he leased some new shops built by Geo. Gould in What ley Rd. ( Victoria St. ) which he christened Bradford House and opened a drapery shop there He was elected to the Ch .Ch.C.C. to fill a vacancy Oct. 72. and was Ie elected , 2' bop of the poll Sept. 74 and again Sept. 77 He easily defeated Henry Thomson for Mayor of Ch.Ch 601 to 343 voles in Nov. 78. He was elected Mayor again next year defeating A. Ayres and the former Mayor Gapes. Nov. 79. He had been on Councils before at Dunedin and Waikouaiti. Marks/Inscriptions: T. Ick He was active in social work in Ch.Ch and was a founder and member of the Benevolent ard Soc. 79 . He was also a member of the Hosp and Charitable Aid Bd. He was for years chairman of the works comm of the Ch.Ch.C.C. marr. Jane Wainwright. she d. after a lingering iss 3.12.83 He used to wear a white bell toppe and a high collar and was beryl particular about his clothes. He built a house at the North end of Papanui Rd , Western side next to Caul the publican. He never recovered from the death of his wife family. and d. 27.4.85. ag. 58.
