Marks/Inscriptions: H.720 Hommersham , Arthur Ryder ( 1894) described himself as wool stapler, of the Island, Kaiapoi , wool sorted for the English and other markets , July '57. He was elected church warden for kara poi parish Ap. 57. In July he assigned his as sets to .C. Black , storekeeper of Kaiapoi, himself a t. bankrupt. and A.G. Rich. for the benefit of his creditors . Everything he possessed was sold and he was imprisoned for debt in the Lilt. Gaol along with criminals and lunatics ; they were packed like Sardines. P 2ter 51 months he petitioned for release and was let out. His sons James and Flacton owned Deep dens, near the present Balcairn cemetery and he 8 went to live with them. In Ang. 67 they were bankrupt too. He had a wool scour at Leith field and later, one at Ashburton ? managed bry one of his sons. His sons Cyrus and Charles had the Mt. Grey Brewery in June 72. He classed the St Leonard s wool clip in '73. sons James His wool scour at Balcairn He d. at Weep dens. 30.7.94 Flacton was burned and much wife Margt d 4.2.87 ag. 72. Charles Woof skin destroyed.
