Marks/Inscriptions: H. 186 Harper, Sir George (1843 -1937) was born 24.4.43 at Stratliedd Mortimer, Eng. where his father was Vicar and was the 4' son of Bishop Harper. He was educ. at Rally and Eton and arrived in N.Z. by the Regina 15.11.8. Rolleston, Chas. Newton and Mrs Cookson were others on the ship . He continued his education at X's Coll from '59 to 62. He was Rowley Scholar in '60 and was elected senior somes Scholar in 61 . The examination took 4 days and he was highly praised by the examiners. In a archet match played in Dec.63 between the school and the Fellows he was awarded a cide ball presented by his brother Henry to the best fielder. He then spent 4 years on stations . He and his brother Henry leased Malvern Hills fr on their father. the Bishops, on tens, paying F £700 a year rent. He managed Avoca fas for his brother Charles and +t was an awkward place to manage .
