Marks/Inscriptions: H. 151 Hardie William Johnston ( was born at Midlothian, Scotland and came out to Port Chalmers in '63 by the Midlothian . After trying the gold fields , he went to Oamaru and worked for 3 years on Totara Station. In '69 he went to Pareora and he and Michael McGovern started contract cropping at Pareora and Waihao . They took up land at Hook in '73. He was a member of the Waimate C.C. from '81 and of the S. Canty. Hesp. and C.A. Bd. an d of the Timaru + Waimate A.+ P. Assoc s.
