Marks/Inscriptions: H. 901 Han lett, Robert (1820 - 67) came out in the Castle Eden with his wife Lucy, 3 and his dau. Lucy, 4 and son Robert, arriving 7.2.51 . He described himself in the pass. list as ag. lab and in the elect. roll of '53 as warehouse man of Winchester St. Lylt. He was an early settler at Kaiapoi and was one of the first to build a house there. His house was licensed as the Kaiapoi Hotel and he trans erred the license in '56. In '57 re was advertising that he would take boarders at Cheltenham House, Kaiapoi. This house was for sale in '58 and was for sale or to let at various times afterwards. He managed to struggle on and was still living there in '59. It was advertised for sale in July 62 Rich + Co and was finally bought b y Belcher and Fairweather, He d. at East Town Belt. Ch.Ch. 15.6.67 ag 47. widow Lucy d. at Woodend 23.4.93 ag. 83 dau Lucy marr. 8.4.63 David Farrall , stable keeper at Kaiapoi Presby Church Rev. Wm. Kirton Jury. another dau. marr.
