Marks/Inscriptions: H. 42 Hall, John (1857-1919) was born in England and came out to N.Z. as a boy. He started his business career as a traveller for Edward Bennett + Co , merchants, and later was head of their grocery department. He was later appointed head. the grocery dept. of Fletcher, Humphreys + C. Later he joined white - - Hubbard in forming the firm of Hubbard, Hull + Co whose business was wholesale grocery and whoe warehouse was opp. the Clock Tower . He eventuate bought out Hubbard and the business became a retail store under the name of John Hall + Co. A branch was opened in Sydenham under the name of Supply Stores lid He retired from business about 1915 . He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Employers Assoc. He d. John Hall was born in Melbourne in 1857 and the Supply Stores Sydenham was taken over by his son in law Arnold Winter Soanes who married Marion Violet Hall. Her brother John died in Rhodesia South Cape South Africa 1934. I am Barbara Pritchard, greatgrandaughter of John Hall. If you would like more information I am happy to share.
