Marks/Inscriptions: H. 37 Hall, George Williamson (1818 -96) was born at Scarborough, the eldest son of Capt. Geo . Hall , of Elongation , Yorks, a mariner, ship owner and elder brother of Trinity House, Hull. as a youth he went to sea and became a Captain in the merchant ser vice . The family was ceded with the sea and f not actually at sea were busy with shipping cargoes . Shortly before he d fi , dead left for N.Z. he had gone in for a considerable in wheat which turned out very badly for him ( John Hall Letters Gen. Ass. Lib. ) . He left for N.Z. in the Royal Albert 13.11.52. (The three brothers came out in three different ships, contrary to most accounts). Iceland says that George Williamson Hall and his brother T.W. took up Highbank Station in Oct. + Dec. 52. Nether of them reached N.Z. till ' but probably John Hall took up the station in their names . They sold out '61 o Browne and Allen in 59. He stood for the Heathcote seat in the Gen. Assembly and defeated Feliz Wakefield comfortably. John Hall took up the Tear Station in April ' in partnership with his two brothers . George and Thomas lived there and John lived in Ch Ch. However he was the effective manager and always worked hard When he was at the station. G.W. Hall took up Ringwood Stak on, Run 97 in '53 and sold it to Charles H. Marks/Inscriptions: G.W. Hall H. 37 When the Canty. Pastoral Assoc. held its second show at Ashburton George Halls house at Ringwood was thrown open to visitors and a ball was given in his Woodshed. The Ch.Ch. Band was there and supplied the music. He was elected a member of the Ch.Ch. Club in 1800; and of the Canty. Philosophical Inst. Nov. 68: he attended it meetings regularly. He was a studious and Widely read man. John Hall stricte R.J.S. Har man to take up a run on the S. Bank the Rakaia for George i hick Harman did . George did not go on with I. marr. 0'50 Agnes Emma, dau of Win. Dryden. Her sis ter married John Hall. The Hall and Dryden familier were on terms of close fr rend hip. He d. of paralysis at o hut alls home Park Terrace 27.2.96. ag. 78. His wife was b. at Cotter ham 27.11.26 7 d. at Dyer Pass Rd. 2.12.17. ag. 91.
