Marks/Inscriptions: G.1 Gilkieson, W ethan (1832 -99) was accountant for the v.B.A. at Lylt. in 60. He had arrived in N.Z. about '58. He left the v.B.A. and joined the B.N.Z. isa and was posted to Kaiapoi in 62 and opined the branch there in a litte weather boarded house which later became the saddle.y emporio of Peter L. Nilson . It is said that the first ledger was about the size a school boys primer and that the cash and securities were carefully preserved from thieves and fire in a tin hat. box. I.B. Hey wood of the B.N.S.W. was his rival . He was treas. of the Rural Sports to o be held on New years day. He was one of the founders of the Kaiapoi Mechanics Instr John Macfarlane of Coldstream gave the site. He e came trees, in '66, and when the first boating club was formed he was elected the first pres. He was one of the judges at the first Kaiapoi Regatta. Jan. 68. When he was moved to Oamaru in '68 he was given a dinner and a presentation of a claret j . Io)als Burch + M. Wiremn were Chair mar and Vice. and Burnip of the Kaiapoi Hotel supplied the dinner. He was evidently popular. marr. 13.8.68 at St. Marys Kaiapoi Emma Sarah widow of Robert Rickman . J.L. Coster manager of the B.N.Z. Ch.Ch was witness.
