Marks/Inscriptions: E 73 eldridge Thomas (1830 -1913) was born at Cheri ton , Kent, and arrived all Lylt. in 58 by the Westminster . He joined the police Force. Af ter 2 years he walked al the way to the Otago gold fields. In '61 he walked back from Otago to Woodend . He soon set oll again to the West Coast. when the gold rh started but returned not long . He bought a small section at Woodend and went itty After. ( business as a sawmill contractor. He was an enthusias tie Volunteer at Woodend and rose to sergt , No. 9 Coy. In 75 he came to Ch.Ch. and remained there the rest of his life. He d. at his son 's home , Cecil St. , Waltham 2 sons. 22.4.13 ag. 83. Hannah his wife d. 13.9.02 ag. 73. both bur. Avonside.
