Marks/Inscriptions: ) 562 Duthie , James (1837 -96) was born in Forfarshire , Scotland and came to N.Z about .He and D. Carr took up some land together at Ashley but he went to Ch Ch and got the position of clerk to P.+W. Duncan and remained with them for sue years. After that he was clerk to the Ashley Rd. Bd and then to the Kowai Rd. Bd. The week before he died he a vole was carried congratulat ing him on the way he had carried out his duties. Driving home to Balcairn from Leith field , he cut a sharp corner and a wheel mounted the side of a bridge.
