Marks/Inscriptions: D. 273. " Dines or Dynes Geo. (1836-71) was a son of Ms Jane Dues who came out early -50. and married John Hayhurst. She had a family of her own and had children by Hayhurst whos all died very young . George worked for the Hay inst and is mentioned various times in the Dray of F.W. Teschemaker " Geo Dies slept here (Haldon) having left his dray stich on top of the pass" 20.12.58. Teheran helped him load it again nest day and G.D. took the dray on to Timaru. The Hayhurst were at this time in the Mackenzie Country. When they came down South, Mrs P rode a white horse which they called Lady Jane . She could not read of write but she was a very useful wife to Hayhurst. when they were at Grays Hells she used to run in the sheep and kill mutton herself . Both she and Hayhurst used to drive the wagon wood down from Simons Pas. At the Tekapo crossing the wagon was put on a pont and the bullocks swam. The Hay hins went on a trip to Eng. leaving by Riga 9.3.60. She d. 1 5.11.00 ag. 79. Geo. marr. 16.4.64 Mary Eleanor Nelson at St. Mary's Timaru Rev. Geo Foster. He d. 1 5.4.71 ag. bur.
