Marks/Inscriptions: C. 210 O Chaffey Raph Anderson (1856- was born at Kennison Mandeville. Somerset, the son of Major E . Chaffey , Somerset Reg.t. and was educ. for the Army. but came out to N.Z. in 78. He went to North Otago as manager for W.H. Teschemaker of Kauroo Hill and was there till '97 when hi came to High field, Wara, as manager. As g yong mare he had been a first class bose and he was in addition a very bry strong man . Harry Ford of Pareora was supreme with his fists in that part of the w old until Chaffey arrived at Kauroo boring Hill. He became a well known refere in canterbury and gave a lot of his time to the ChCh Sports Club. His after great hobby was volunteering. was lent of the otepopo Rifles in '82 and in '85 he raised the North Otago of which he was capt. till '97. In Canty. he started the Amuri Mounted Rifles and was Capt. and then Major . In 1905 he was promo led to Lt. Col and in 1911 to Colonel. He commanded the Canty. Mounted Rifle Bde . 1911-1914 and in 1914 unaided the Canty Military Dist. He commanded the special police doing the water side strike of 1913. He was a member of the Annui C.C.
