Marks/Inscriptions: C. 194 Caughley, John ( - 1953) stared to teach in and was stationed at Hastings , Napier, Otane and Wag and was then appointed Head master of ChCh West District High School. At thrse time he was Pres. of the N.Z. Educational Inst. In 1916 he neas app . Asst. Director of Educ, and he was Director 1921-1927 when he retired. A feature of his a diniis tation was the introduction of Junior High Schoole In 1927 he was a member of the Wgtn C.C. He then wet to Fife to serve as director of Educ. till 1930. He was a member of the Fiji Leg. Coun. In 1935 he neas in successful as a condi dale for Part. for the Kaipar seat. as a Democrat. From 1944 -50 he was Pres. of the s per annual ed Public Servants Assoc. He d in Auck. Feb. 19 57 . He was a very successful teacher and was perhaps better known as a teacher than as an adm mist ration.
