Marks/Inscriptions: 8. 488 I. Blackler , James (1806- ) came out in the Canterbury with his wife and family, arriving at Lylt 31.10.51 . They appear in the passenger list as follows J.B. ag. Cab. aged 34, Harriett, wife a 31; James, 9; John 5; Wm, 2 Every, Harriett, .The ages do not approximately agree with thes given in the decter notices: they never ds . Sometimes it may be poor arithmetic; in this case Blackler probably wanted to make himself Younger than he really p Kennaway was. The Klondyke Brothers brought him out. He won a prize for a draught stallion at the ChCh Show of 68: and at the first Ellesmere Show , held at Southbridge , Jan. 71 he won a prize for a draught mare, Acland says Sandy and Blackler bought Wakanui Hone stead and if s0 it w outd probably be in '78 when Sandy left the Ellesmere dist. The Blackler then would almost certainly be one of the sons. Blackler himself toes was a dau. o Within two years of his death, Sundry marr. OsO f Blackberr daus. Harriett. Blackler had been friends with John Smith on the Canterbury and they were partners in contracting for some time after which Blackler bought a farm at Lot. Lincolns. In his last years he lived at Doyleston with different members of his family. His son James had the Irwell Hotel in '91. pass list. Canty. Mus.
