Marks/Inscriptions: D. 466 Bishop, Rockwood Comport (1847-1925) was born in Berm ond sey, London 16.9.47 the second son of Char les Welling ton Bishops H6.9.47 and was christened al St. James's , Berm ond sen The sponsors were Mary Swift Warbur ton. Wm. N. Warburton, J.de D. Rockw ood Lockw o0d, ad came out with his parents in the Charlotte Jane in 1850 . He was edie at X's Cull and was No. 48 on the School hist. He was given a business training in Aust. His first job was with a land + estate agent and survey . He was clerk to H.E. Alport the anetineer in '63. He was seven years on the W. Coast gold diggings and was then employed in the Justice Dept. He returned to ChCh in e and went into part. with his father as accountants and comm. agar 's. His father succeeded E.C.I . Stevens as sec. to the Ch Ce Gas Cor. and Rock erad succeeded him when he died. He was an offe cer and treas wer of the ChCh Fire Plie Sep t. 76 and in 178 aas Sel. as well. He was elected to the ChCh CC. Nor. East hard in Sept. 79. In July 85 he was promoted to be Lieut. of lhe City Guards. and was Cater Capt. He wrote an account of the Aty first Guards. He used to describe Victories Square when its was market Square and was the general place for Watering stock. He described forming cashel St by working bees. 26 a day was paid if a man could not afford to pay work for nothing .
