Marks/Inscriptions: B. 364 Bennett, John (1831 - 98) came out in the Lancashire Witch and landed in Oct. 63. He had served in the Royal Navy and had seen active service in Chirac where he was stationed for five years. He was a ships carpenter. He started as a builder in N.Z. and wor led first in ChCh. He then under took to superintend the shipping of William White f timber across Lakes Forsyth and Ellesmere from Little P ver to the south of the Lake. When this busines was fished he started as a builder in Leeston. He had a hight fall but it had serious results. For the years Owing 1o an cuisin he could not move. He gradually improved and was able to dos light werk marr. Mary C Ann Andrews. she d. at l reston 4.5.03 aged 66. he left a widow He d. 9.3.98. aged 59. grown up son + dau. dau. Mary Ann . marr. 4.10.89 Joseph Ly ness b Ireland '58 son of Thos. L. laborer and Elisabeth Livingstone. Leeston Wes. M.R. son. Wm. a builder b. N.Z '68 marr. 8.1.96 Mary Jane McClure b.
