Marks/Inscriptions: B. 351. de Bellig ny M. St. Croxton was N.Z. Agent r the Nant - Bordered Coy. and a friend of Capt. (1Angered who belie ved he had bought a laye tract of Peninsular land Pron the Mass.s. de Belli ny imported a bill, several Cows and a stallion from Sydney. He was the nephew of an important officer of the French dipl e service and was a skilled botanist and mineral gist and had been on the staff of the Jardin des out Planes. He was liked at esteemed by the French settlors. He bought a good selections of plants, including vines and Walnuts and numerous vegetable and flower seeds. He planted the walnuts at Takamatua and had the mar garden at F.erick Farm on the Sunny side of Akaroa Harbour. He made a botanical report on the tract of open country bel veen G rens Point and Flea Bay . He was made Mayor of the Settlement Farr says he brought the weeping wille cuttings and planted them in German Bay. He returned to France in '45 but came back to N.Z. and lived in Auckland. His brother came out with him. a full account of de Belli nys dealings in Alaia land with the N.Z. Coy. Will be found ao LT. 14.3.63 and 1.4.63.
