He was elected a member of the ChCh Club in '57 and of the C.J.C. in '59. He was deputy Regis ran of B.D.1M. at Timaru in 61. 1Mrs M. Studholme says he was a cows on of the Wool combe 's. this perhaps accounted for him settling in Timaru . He was elected to the first comm. chien to form the Mechanics Inst.lute at Timaru and was one of the first Park conn issuers. He was return ed unopposed for Timaru in 67 in succession to Lester Thomson. He resigned in '68 and for some tune there was io member in protes t against the share of publi o money allotted to be Spent in the Timaru distre He was a Steward at the Timaru Raced 67 + .
