Marks/Inscriptions: B. 273 Beatt E, Robert (1844 -97) was born at Ann an , Dun fries ohine and came to N.Z. in the Early 60's and settled in Dunedin and joined the firm of Herbert Haynes + Co and later acted as traveller f r Butterworth Bros. with whom he remained " 15 le for B at1.8.1) years .In '93 he joined R.W. Black , diapers in business in Ch Ch and the firm became Balk, Beattie + Co . He was a prominent Presby terran and was Supt of St. Pauls Sum lay Sch . and later was supt. of St. Peters Sunday Sch, Ferry Road. He was a J.P. and tristram of the City Mission House. He was a temperance man and member of the Sy denham Lie Comm. His wife was drowned at Kaikoura bant '91. He went home with his two daus. to be present at at the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations He d. in London abat 6.6.97. lift. 3 daus. a sons. LT.
