Marks/Inscriptions: B. 233 Baxter, George (1837-1911) was born at M0ville , Lough Foyer , Ireland and was brought up on a farm. He went to America for five years and then returned to Ireland. He came out to Auckland in the Shalimar in '62. From there he went to Dunedin and from Dunedin to Canty. He worked in road making, took contracts. and helped to clear the River Halswell. In '63 he bought 260 ac. in the Leeston dist. and called his farm M0ville. Southbridge was then known as Cabbage Tree Flat. He steadily added to his farm until it amounted to 2000 ac. He started with wheat. growing but turned largely to sheep. He had a herd of Shorthorns and was a member of the Ellesmere A+P. Ass oc. Their home was near Bishops Corner. His wife Jessie was crowned in a very bad boating accident at the mouth of the Rakaia 23.11.09 aged 54. marr . 23.10.78 at Temuka by Riv. G. Fynes - Clinton Jessie Watson.
