Marks/Inscriptions: A 293 Ashton , Philip was for 25 years riding mas ter to the Bengal Horse Ar Villers . In Ang '5 he went into business in the purchase and sale of horses. Phel Ashton had tho stables behind the White Hart at one time. Philip Ashton appears in the Jury hist of 1860 as of o South ChCh Road, farmer, His son Albert Frederick educ. X's Coll. 59-62 was No go on the School list; he won a ire for history and geography in the midwinter examinat wors of June '62, D. Ashton of Rangiora. Three of his family died in ten days, Ang. 63. They were Alice 6' dau aged 9 . Geo. Joseph 3' son aged 11 and Ellen 2' dau aged 27. A dau of Chas. Marton died at the same time of Scala ia (Scarlet fever?) and this was probably the cause of the disaster to the Ashton family. No ashton gravestones to be seen in Rang ira cemeteries. Philip Astonis name erased from lest of electors in May '67 - deceased. The above items probably all apply to the scmes Phillip Ashton , but not koon fr certain.
