Marks/Inscriptions: A.241 Archer, Fulbert (1825-1904) was born at Treas£e Cornwall and was the 4 " son of Edward Archer of Tre lake who was high.- sherif of Cornwall in 1832 and marr. 2.8. 1814 Charlotte Catherine only child and herios of Capt. Charles Haward f the 32 Foot Guards of Hayne House , Devon. He was educ. at Winchester and Oxford Univ. and was called to the Bar and in 53 practised in the Western Ascent. On5s he pored pole +Co n Melbourne In 56 he married Mary Elizabeth 2" dau of William Cave , of the Caves of Cleve Hill, CG los. This was a double wedding . On the same day Mary's Sos Cer married James Durable, brother of Benjamin , later Earl of Benson field. He went irt to Australia and l6e he joined Miles + Co in Melbourne where his son Fulbert As1ley was born - the eldest son and second child. They returned to Eng. where several more children were born and came out to N.Z. in the Matoaka Feb. 68, they had with them their children Fulbert and Oakley and Mary and Geraldine. He was conmeeted with the Miles family by marriage (another Cave sister had married Edward Miles) dand went to live at Timaru and managed the Timaru branch of Miles + Co fam. inf. , Landed Gentry: Andersen s . He was a commissioner of the Timaru Park Reser and. Cemeter y Reserve . He was chairman the Harb. Bd when the first breakwater was declare d open for the use f chipp , Nov. 79. Miles + Co had to go into eid aton during the slump Clipping, of the g0's and Miles, Archer was al so involved . He went to live in ChCh in July 92. He started in business ( in July 95 as F. Archer + Co. shipping and comin, . He returned to Eng. in ' 98 and died there in 1904 in. agents. 1 His first wife died at Timaru 27.10.72 he marr (2) at St Michaels , by Dean Jacobs, 15.1.73 Elizabeth Charlotte eldest dau of Charles Ly don, of Faun ton.
