Marks/Inscriptions: A.168.1. Alcorn, Robert. (1839- - 1926) was a prominent man at Hokitika in the gold mining days. He was interested most Cy in Shipping. He moved rom there to Ashburton. He was a strong advocate fo npr ance and led w several campaigns there. He was elected tops of the poll to the Ashbur ton Licensing Comm. Feb. 83 and was Elected again the following year. He was a partner with Join Orr in an un monpery business in Ashburton . H was again elected Pep of the Leic. Comm. Feb. 86. He was bankrupt. in '96. 7 and Dor Separated and Alco kept the groo part the business and John Dorr took the hardware . On had aloof cone from the Wist Coast . Alcorn was a Strong Methodist. When he retired fr on busines he went to live in ChCh. Laker he went to live in the Waika He had helped to build several Methodist churches in different places where he had lived He was born at Omah Co. Tyrone Two of his daughters Mary and His wife Margaret died at Put aura 13.10. 23 Maggie started a drapery aged . 81. He d. there 25.5.26 aged 87 business an W gin which prospered.
