The bar is located above the former supermarket on London Street in Lyttelton. Photograph taken from the car park on the south side of the building.

Interruption to trading has been an unwelcome fact of life for many businesses since the 4 September 2010 earthquake. The Wunderbar was closed after each of the three major earthquakes for repairs to the building in which it is located. Each time these have been completed, the bar held a reopening party; trying on each occasion to outdo the previous event. The opening night for the bar after the 22 February 2011 quake was also the launch of the Harbour Union album. This CD was recorded by local musicians as an earthquake relief fundraiser.
