One of the immediate priorities in Lyttelton was stabilising the transport routes both from Lyttelton to Christchurch and the port infrastructure so that goods could be brought into the region by sea. The helicopter pictured is using monsoon buckets of water to wash loose rocks from the cliffs above the road access to the Lyttelton Container Terminal. The road above where the rocks are being dislodged is the Sumner Road which remained closed (as of September 2013) between Lyttelton and its summit at Evans Pass.
