Researcher comments/remarks
The earthquakes and accompanying aftershocks in Canterbury proved to be a very frightening experience, especially for children. This book was written in response to the 4 September 2010 earthquake to help children understand earthquakes and provide comfort for children who were anxious. The book tells the story of Tiger, a cat who ran away in the earthquake because he was scared and how he made his way back to his owner, Emma. The tone of this children’s book is remarkably different to that of ‘The Butterfly and the Earthquake’ which was written in response to the 22 February 2011 earthquake, though they both aspire to help children affected by the Canterbury earthquakes.
