Children's Millennium Games Torch
Description
Aluminium, brass and copper torch designed for the Christchurch Children's Millennium Games by Tim Main. The torch symbolises the greywacke stone of Canterbury in the base, the endangered native silver tussock on the stem and the native hinau tree at the top with its classic narrow pointed leaf. The torch rests upon a wooden display stand evoking images of the foothills and the Alps. At 1.2kg it was designed to be light enough to be carried by a child over a distance of 100m without difficulty. The fuel used was a mixture of methylated spirits and kerosene.
