Biography
Edwin Simes was the son of Walter Simes and Martha Burgess. He grew up in Islington, Middlesex, England. his father died when he was 11 and his mother died when he was 18. Edwin emigrated to New Zealand about 1871 and married Susannah Mary Craddock five years later. The couple had six children.
Edwin was a carpenter by trade, just like his father and grandfather.
