Biography
Born 14.11.1894 in the Victorian gold-mining town of Bendigo in Australia. He attended Bendigo High School and studied natural philosophy (mathematics and science) for two years at Melbourne University, and became a lecturer at the Junior Technical School, Ballarat. A member of the scientific staff of the Aurora shore party at McMurdo Sound on the Ross Sea where he served as physicist. Together with Hayward, Joyce and Wild, he was awarded the Albert Medal for heroism during the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition which was exchanged for a George Cross in 1971. Was Principal of the School of Mines and Industries, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, from 1946 to 1958. Died in 1985 at Point Lonsdale, New South Wales, aged 92. Author of the book "Ross Sea Shore Party".
