Biography
Born Yasuki City, Matsue Prefecture.
1927 Went to Kyoto and became a student with his uncle Kanjiro Kawai.
1942 Travelled to China and studied at Hakusan in Shantung Province, well known for its pottery. Apart from studying Chinese pottery techniques he also spent some time with the potters of Onda, in Kyushu where they follow Korean pottery techniques. Since 1954 he has become independent of Kanjiro Kawai, having his own workshop and students, including many foreign students Since 1959 he has held exhibitions each in Tokyo and Osaka. His work is also exhibited in the Folk Craft Museum in Tokyo.
