Description
A pair of ornamental ceramic figurines, a male and female, in pseudo-XVIII century style period costume. They are cast in bisque in a mould and hand-painted on the front only.
The female has a broad-brimmed bonnet trimmed with feathers and long loose brown hair. The dress has 3/4 length leg-o'-mutton sleeves, a buttoned bodice with a deep V-neck and a belt and flat shoes. She is carrying a long parasol and holding her skirt up on the right side, while standing on rocks in front of a tree-trunk and a rustic gate. The back is impressed, "3773" and is untinted. The front is painted in cream, brown and pink.
The male is wearing a tricorne hat with cockades, has short curly hair, a tie, double-breasted coat with wide lapels, 8 buttons and tails, and his waistcoat is showing below the front of his coat waist with fobs, knee breeches and roll-top boots. He is holding a long cane with a tassel and standing on rocks in front of a rustic gate and foliage. The back is marked and the figure is coloured as above.
