Researcher comments/remarks
This view of the site of the Harbourlight Theatre is taken from the same vantage point as 2013.17.80. The rear wall of the theatre was left in place, when the rest of the building was demolished, to support the large excavation into the hillside once occupied by the theatre. The eighteen months of exposure to the weather and continuing aftershocks led to the small landslide at the rear of the site. The loss of many landmark buildings in the commercial centre of Lyttelton has led to the questioning of the ongoing relevance of local design guidelines in the District Plan. These are scheduled for review by 30 June 2014.
