 Description
One portrait colour digital photograph taken on 19 November 2011 showing a poster advertising the planned 2011 Census which was scheduled for Tuesday 8 March 2011. The census was abandoned because of the 22 February 2011 Earthquake. The poster was located in the window of the Lyttelton Information Centre on Oxford Street. The building was closed from 22 February 2011 until April 2013 due to the danger posed by the neighbouring building and then while repairs were scheduled and carried out.

Researcher comments/remarks
The disruption caused by the February 2011 earthquakes extended beyond the Canterbury region. The 2011 national census was cancelled as a result of the earthquakes. There were concerns about the quality of the data which would be able to be collected with so many people in the Canterbury region displaced from their homes as well as the logistics of distributing, collecting and processing the forms while still under a national state of emergency. A replacement census was held on 5 March 2013. Because of access restrictions to the Lyttelton Information Centre the poster remained on display for over a year after the scheduled date for the 2011 census.
