Researcher comments/remarks
Following each of the major earthquakes and aftershocks the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade were a key part of the local response. Members have shared their stories of this time in the book The Brigade: Earthquake 2011: A Tribute to the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade, edited by brigade member Alastair Suren. The Fire Station was demolished in August 2012 and the brigade is making use of a temporary station made from shipping containers with a fabric roof, while a new facility is planned and built. Discussions have been held between Lyttelton Police, St John Ambulance and the Fire Service to consider a combined emergency response centre.
