Researcher comments/remarks
Groups in the Lyttelton Harbour basin increased their efforts to reach out into the community to help people come to terms with the destruction and loss caused in the 2010-2011 earthquakes. The assistance offered was both practical, such as hot meals for the elderly, and symbolic, through ceremonies like those advertised here. Later reporting on the event by the Lyttelton Community House stated that around 100 people had attended the combined Matariki (Maori New Year) event and Whakahorohoro (rite of purification) ceremony.
