Researcher comments/remarks
This ‘Heart for Christchurch’ was made by Evie Harris, the organiser of the Hearts for Christchurch project. From Napier, New Zealand, Evie began the Hearts for Christchurch project to symbolically communicate the widespread love and support for the people of Christchurch following the 22 February 2011 earthquake. Using her blog, Evie sent a call out around the world and more than 4,000 hand stitched hearts were sent to Canterbury. The hearts were displayed at Canterbury Museum from September 2011 to February 2012 then distributed to the people of Canterbury. Seven hearts remain in the collection of Canterbury Museum for future generations of Cantabrians.
