First commissioned,1944, as HMS PRETEXT. Returned USA, Taken back by UK as RRS ( Royal Research Ship ) JOHN BISCOE for Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey. Sold to New Zealand, August,1956, renamed HMNZS ENDEAVOUR, Decommissioned in June 1962 Sold to Canada and foundered off Newfoundland in November 1982, An Ailanthus-class net laying ship. Used to take Edmund Hillary's Party to Antarctica for the Sir Vivian Fuchs's Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition 1956 - 1958
