Biography
Earthenware and stoneware manufactory established in 1829 by the inventor and industrialist Wilhelm Sattler of Schweinfurt (inventor of sago and the toxic pigment 'emerald green') in the 12th century Aschach Castle, Bad Kissingen, Northern Bavaria. The products manufactured in this factory are now collectors' items and are "evidence of a unique production quality and artistic design" (http://www.schmittroth.de/geschichte/burgen/ufr/aschach/main.html).
In 1864 operations were closed down due to competition from cheap imported English goods. Frederick Count of Franconia Luxburg bought the castle in 1874 to give his valuable art treasures a worthy setting. Sattler's kilns were demolished and a park was created. In 1955, Karl Graf von Luxburg gave the castle and its contents to the district government of Lower Franconia, and it now contains three museums.
